Columns made of metal are widely used in the construction of industrial, commercial, office and other fast-erecting facilities. Special requirements are imposed on the quality of welding and rolled metal. Metal columns have not only a load-bearing function, but also an aesthetic one. They must fully fit into the design of the structures.
When erecting any object, the process begins with the erection of columns. Installation of columns, as well as manufacturing, should be performed only by experienced workers, because it is on their quality depends on the reliability and safety of the entire structure.
Purpose and types
Metal column is a type of construction support, which takes on a high load, supporting the integrity of buildings and structures. Due to the installation of such vertical columns, the load-bearing capacity of the building is increased and its vibration sensitivity is reduced. In construction, these elements accelerate the work process due to relatively simple installation.
Columns are used in the construction of hangars, apartment buildings, crossings and overpasses, bridges. Depending on the purpose, structural features of buildings, certain types of steel structures are selected.

The cost of columns depends on their size, design, type. According to the purpose of metal columns are divided into:

• Main – to them fix other elements of the metal frame: trusses, beams, slabs.
• Auxiliary – half-timbered, designed to strengthen the structure, increase its overall rigidity and strengthen the wall panels.
  Column elements
  The structure includes a rod and supporting elements – head and base, connected by a rod. The building structure that loads the column rests on the header. The task of this element is to transfer external loads to the base and foundation by means of the rod. To increase resistance to loads, the rod can be reinforced with stiffening ribs, braces to strengthen the mating parts.
  Installation of metal columns
  Installation of columns consists of several technological stages: preparation of foundations and the installation of metal structures.
  The foundation is taken and prepared before the installation of the columns. On the foundation there should be a marking axis for the installation of columns, which, as a rule, are allocated even before the foundation is poured.

The steel columns are installed on prefabricated or monolithic foundations, the anchor bolts are installed and lubricated in advance. depending on the method of support chosen in the project of a particular building, the foundation is built to full height or slightly less for subsequent mortar filling.
After the foundation has been laid and the milled base plates for the columns have been installed, the columns are assembled.
Further technology includes:

• installation of steel beams with fastening with reinforced anchor bolts and intermediate, control alignment of the position of the metal column;
• assembly of the frame in the system of horizontal beams by means of a crane (slinging, lifting, pointing at supports or joints, alignment and fixing);
• fixing of trusses and slabs, other elements of the metal frame.
  During the installation work is used special equipment with high load capacity, in particular cranes.
